Easter Triduum 2026 – Holy Family Church
The Sacred Paschal Triduum, the culmination of the Lenten journey and the heart of the Church’s liturgical year, was celebrated with great devotion and solemnity at Holy Family Church. Maundy Thursday – Celebration of the Lord’s Supper The Triduum began on Maundy Thursday with the solemn celebration of the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper. The main celebrant was Rev. Fr. Ashwin Prakash Aranha. In his homily, Fr. Ashwin highlighted the new commandment given by Jesus – “Love one another as I have loved you” – and emphasized the importance of priestly vocation and deep love for the Most Holy Eucharist. Twelve apostles were chosen from different wards of the parish to reverently re-enact the Washing of the Feet, commemorating the humble service of our Lord at the Last Supper. At the conclusion of the Mass, the Blessed Sacrament was solemnly transferred in procession to the Altar of Repose, where the faithful, taking turns according to their scheduled slots, adored the Lord in silent prayer and contemplation throughout the day. Good Friday – Celebration of the Lord’s Passion On Good Friday, the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion commenced at 5:00 p.m. and was presided over by Rev. Fr. Cyril Lobo, Spiritual Director of the Minor Seminary, Moodubelle. In his moving homily, Fr. Cyril reflected on the opportunity given by Jesus for all to return to His merciful love. He contrasted the denial of St. Peter, who repented and was restored, with the betrayal of Judas, who despaired and took his own life without repentance. The Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St. John was solemnly proclaimed through melodious singing, enabling the entire congregation to deeply reflect on the suffering and redemptive death of Christ. In the morning at 8:15 a.m., the members of YCS and ICYM conducted the Way of the Cross in the open ground with great devotion and meticulous preparation. Easter Vigil – The Mother of All Vigils The Easter Vigil, the most solemn liturgy of the Church, began with the Blessing of the New Fire and the solemn preparation and lighting of the Paschal Candle. This was followed by the Liturgy of the Word, which included the proclamation of the great history of salvation through selected readings from Sacred Scripture. The celebration then proceeded with the Liturgy of Baptism and the Eucharistic Liturgy. The main celebrant for the Easter Vigil was Rev. Fr. Lenson Lawrence Lobo, Principal of Infant Jesus School, Chikmagalur. In his inspiring homily, Fr. Lenson emphasized that Easter is the feast of hope. He reminded the faithful that sufferings are an inevitable part of life, but they are not permanent. As a Resurrection people, we are called to be filled with hope, and “Alleluia” must become the song of our lives. Words of Gratitude The three days of solemn liturgies were meticulously planned and beautifully executed under the guidance of the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. John Fernandes. Fr. John expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all who made the Triduum spiritually enriching He extended special thanks to:
