Independence Day Celebration at Nirmala Kannada & English Medium High School
The 80th Independence Day of India was celebrated with great patriotic spirit and enthusiasm at Nirmala English Medium High School, Brahmavar, on 15 August 2026. The programme commenced at 9.00 a.m. with the hoisting of the National Flag by Mr. Prabhakar Shetty of Brahmavar, accompanied by the Headmistress, Mrs. Lona, the Headmaster, Rev. Fr. Mathias Dias, and the Joint Secretary, Rev. Fr. John Fernandes. The presence of the Presidents of the Parent-Teacher Associations of both schools, Church leaders, teachers, parents and well-wishers added dignity and significance to the celebration. The unfurling of the Tricolour, followed by the National Anthem, created a deeply patriotic atmosphere. The celebration reminded everyone that Independence Day is not merely a commemoration of India's freedom from colonial rule, but also an occasion to remember with gratitude the sacrifices of our freedom fighters and to renew our commitment to the values of unity, justice, equality, peace and responsible citizenship.

A colourful cultural programme presented by the students of both schools added vibrancy to the celebration. The students displayed their talents through a variety of patriotic songs, dances and other cultural presentations. Their performances reflected not only their creativity and confidence but also their love for the nation and respect for India's rich cultural diversity.
One of the major attractions of the programme was the impressive March Past and MPT (Mass Physical Training) exercise. The students participated with remarkable discipline, coordination and enthusiasm. The synchronised movements and well-organised formations were a visual treat for the audience and demonstrated the importance of teamwork, discipline, physical fitness and dedication.
The highlight of the celebration was the Science, Art and Craft Exhibition organised by Nirmala English Medium High School. Nearly 200 science models prepared by students from Classes 5 to 10 were displayed. The exhibition provided an excellent opportunity for students to transform their classroom learning into practical and creative expressions.
The variety and originality of the models were truly impressive. The exhibition demonstrated the students' curiosity, scientific temperament, creativity and problem-solving abilities. It was indeed a feast for the eyes and an inspiration to the mind. The exhibits also revealed the sincere efforts of the students and the guidance and encouragement provided by their teachers.
Such exhibitions are especially valuable because they encourage children to learn beyond textbooks. They help students develop observation, experimentation, innovation, teamwork and presentation skills—qualities that are essential for building a progressive and self-reliant India.
The entire celebration was a beautiful blend of patriotism, discipline, creativity, education and cultural expression. It gave the students an opportunity not only to celebrate the freedom of the nation but also to understand their responsibility as the future citizens of India.

The Independence Day celebration at Nirmala English and kannada Medium High School was therefore a memorable and meaningful occasion. It was a fitting tribute to the nation and to all those who sacrificed their lives for India's freedom. The programme concluded with a renewed commitment among the students and the entire school community to contribute positively towards building a united, peaceful, responsible and prosperous India.
